Chapter 2:23 through Chapter 3:12 The Sabbath-Work & Sabbath-Healing
- What is the main subject? Jesus teaching that the current thinking of the Sabbath is amiss and displaying authority over the Sabbath as the Son of Man
- Who are the main people? Jesus, Pharisees, the sick, the disciples, a great multitude, and evil spirits
- What does it say about Christ? Jesus has and is the authority! He can heal and was generating a HUGE following
- What is the key or main verse? 2:28 – Therefore the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. (Jesus is Authority)
- What is the central lesson? The Pharisees had it wrong. They did not properly understand the importance of life over a day of the week.
- What are the main promises? Jesus has authority, the Son of Man.
- What are the main commands? To keep quiet about His being the Son of God
- What error should I avoid? Letting my unruly tongue and pride lead to disobedience and to follow Him because of His love, not for selfish reasons.
- What example is here? Crowds were following Him for their needs, but later on we find they almost all turn their back on Him. Perhaps the example of Him telling the evil spirits to stifle it?
- What do I need most in this chapter to apply to my life today? Trust and obey!
