Hallelujah, praise the living God for another day to pray for you all and be used by Him. Today I offer this line from Derek Kidner.
“Whereas most nations tend to look back on what they have achieved, Israel reflects here on what she has survived.”
Psalm 129
New American Standard Bible 1995
Prayer for the Overthrow of Zion’s Enemies.
A Song of Ascents.
129 “Many times they have persecuted me from my youth up,”
Let Israel now say,
2 “Many times they have persecuted me from my youth up;
Yet they have not prevailed against me.
3 “The plowers plowed upon my back;
They lengthened their furrows.”
4 The Lord is righteous;
He has cut in two the cords of the wicked.
5 May all who hate Zion
Be put to shame and turned backward;
6 Let them be like grass upon the housetops,
Which withers before it grows up;
7 With which the reaper does not fill his hand,
Or the binder of sheaves his bosom;
8 Nor do those who pass by say,
“The blessing of the Lord be upon you;
We bless you in the name of the Lord.”
Heavenly Father, in the name of our Lord Jesus, Your servant praises and worships You.
Bless You, for protecting Israel in the past, and thank You for this Psalm that captures such a rich and emotional recounting of events. Please be faithful to protect Israel today. Once again, cut the cords of the wicked and put to shame those who would attack or curse Israel. Soften those hard hearts that refuse You and help us pray for our enemies because it is so hard to show love and kindness in the face of such violence and wickedness. May we all see more of Your glory and less war and destruction.
Father, we thank You that You have heard us. Amen in Jesus’ name and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
